Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) joined families and staff earlier this week during a unique ceremony for Project Lead the Way: Biomedical Sciences students in their senior year.
A white coat ceremony is a rite of passage for those entering the medical field. First held in the early 1990s at college and universities, the ceremony serves as a symbol of a person’s commitment to the medical profession. During the ceremony, students also recite the Hippocratic Oath, which was led by keynote speaker, Dr. Richard E. Cook. Cook is a third-generation physician who specializes in internal medicine and women’s health.
Project Lead the Way: Biomedical Sciences include the principles of biomedical sciences, human body systems, medical interventions and biomedical innovations. Students apply for the biomedical sciences pathway in the eighth grade to start the program in their freshman year of high school.

The CTE application is open through Nov. 13.
